‘Brown Girls Do It Too,’ is hands down one of my all-time favourite podcasts. Hosted by the brilliant Poppy Jay and Rubina Pabani, it features two fearless brown women talking openly, honestly, and hilariously about sex with a diverse range of, mostly, brown women. Nothing is off-limits — they dive into everything with a raw, vulnerable charm that never fails to make me laugh out loud. What I love most is the total absence of shame or judgement. Everyone, no matter who they are or what they’ve experienced, is given space to speak their truth.
It’s genuinely revolutionary — especially in South Asian culture, where shame around bodies, sexuality, and pleasure runs deep. (Thanks, colonialism!)
I’d never heard brown women talk about sex in such a bold, animated, and refreshingly non-judgemental way before and think everyone should give this a listen and watch them live this September 2025 at Soho Theatre Walthamstow.
I had the pleasure of meeting Poppy Jay last year after a panel at Whitechapel Gallery, where I spoke about the series I scored, ‘Defiance: Fighting the Far Right’. Rubina is someone I’ve bumped into around Margate — and I’m so glad we all hit it off. After the panel we found ourselves cackling away in a pub, with Poppy gleefully rewriting one of my dating profiles. Ha!
So when they invited me onto the podcast, I was delighted. The episode’s theme was ‘Fluidity,’ — a subject I know all about.

It’s their LAST episode today. Treat yourselves by re-listening to ALL of their episodes. You’ll be laughing for hours non-stop.
